Marble tongue is based on the format of text to speech technology, where the narrator is at the whim of the writer’s desires. The structure of the video is based on the fundamental structure of vowels in the English language and how those letters sound when spoken. The viewer is confronted with the phonetic spelling of each vowel, which in turn becomes another world, providing a new definition in place of the vowel sound. This structure develops to consider the vowels I, O, U and sometimes Y to be defined as a system of debt exchange between two subjects: “I OWE YOU, SOMETIMES. WHY?”.
